Rain Rain Rain – and a record (or two)

By   June 28, 2017

You probably just thought it rained a lot yesterday.

Whether you were at home watching the roads turn to rivers or out and about you would have realised it was raining a lot.

The prediction was that a month’s rainfall would fall in one day.

By 10:00pm ITV reported that Santon Downham claimed the record as the wettest place in the country with 49.8m (~ 2″) of rain in 12 hours. (9am till 9pm)

We’d normally get 58mm in the whole month.

The rain didn’t stop overnight and by the morning the record had continued to grow.

ITV had to update the story as by then we’d had 78mm of rain (~3″) – more than for the whole of April and May.

We were popular on many websites including the Daily Star the EDP, BFP and the Newburgh Gazette

The Daily Star reported that it was our wettest day since records began in 1960!.
