In September 2023 Linda Tottenham contacted us to say that her husband’s family line goes back to Edward Phillipe & Helen Jane MacKenzie, who once owned Downham Hall and that they had inherited two watercolours painted by Helen depicting the gardens of the hall and would we like copies of them?
The paintings show details of the rear of the house and the gardens.
As all the other photographs we have are black and white/sepia these are the only images showing how colourful the gardens would have been in 1900.
