Site of the murder of Prior John of Cambridge, 1381

Much current discussion surrounds the claims of both Icklingham and Barton Mills to the above murder. Local researchers have unearthed an extract from The Rising in East Anglia in 1381 which carries a reference to the Kings Bench Rolls. This contemporary court document apparently puts the site on Mildenhall Heath, about a mile from the town. This could have been as nearly as far north as the runway lights and the east end of the base, though presumably lay in the direction of Barton Mills and Icklingham, maybe somewhere near the present Barton Mills roundabout. Since all three parishes meet in this area, that could explain why they all claim the deed.
