Harvest Horkey
After the harvest, most farmers gave their workers a 'Horkey'. The following
extract is from the Bury Free press of September 1920:
Moulton Horkey
All the employees on Mr Pat Robins Farm, Moulton had their annual Horkey at
the Shepherd and Dog Inn, on Wednesday evening last. The dinner was at 5pm,
consisting of roast beef, leg of mutton, vegetables and plumb pudding ETC,
served in her usual excellent manner by hostess, Mrs Blinker. Pat Robins
presided, a most enjoyable and convivial evening was spent. Songs were rendered
by Messers Pat Robins, J Fisher, J Layton, H Prigg, R Collins and S Prigg.
Hearty votes of thanks were given to Mr Pat Robins and Mrs Blinker. The evening
enjoyment was concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Next Morning
all the harvestmen were entertained to a breakfast at 9am at the shepherd and
Dog Inn.
