Garden PartyI particularly recollect that first Garden Party. For weeks beforehand I and my sisters made necklaces of beads alternating with small 'cylinders' of flowered wallpaper. Once we had learned the method of cutting out and rolling up these 'cylinders' not forgetting a little paste to hold them together, they could be made very quickly and they were very attractive. My duty was to sell small pieces of the first German Zeppelin brought down over England. They were mounted on postcards, sold for a shilling each, and helped to raise what in those days was considered to be a very handsome total of £80, sufficient to make the Church watertight.
