Police station and court house built
1851 Police station and court house built in Mildenhall, headquarters of the
Mildenhall division of the West Suffolk Police Force which had been established
in 1844.
In the early days discipline was poor, and one constable was dismissed for
allowing a prostitute to stay in his bedroom and to have the keys of the
station. Matters greatly improved under Supt. Reeve, in charge from 1883 to
1898. His successor, Supt. Heigham, stayed until the Mildenhall division was
disbanded in 1921. [Colin Dring: Mildenhall in Old Picture Postcards; European
