The USAF over East Anglia
History

The USAF have a long presence in East Anglia and the area surrounding Santon Downham is no exception being close to both RAF Lakenheath and RAF Midenhall

Flightpath

Santon Downham is on the flightpath for RAF Lakenheath. The F15's based there fly over nearly everyday (Except bank Holidays (English and US) and weekends). They fly over the village green which reduces some of the noise and acts as a good aiming point to line up for landing. If you travel on the B1065 from Brandon towards Barton Mills you cross the end of the runway. While a pair of F15s landing in tandem can be spectular (you can't believe how low they are), something like a C5 Galaxy is awe inspiring.

No doubt some people complain about the noise, but it's nothing like being on the flightpath for Stansted or Heathrow, the military jets are always interesting and you never quite know what to expect.

We get other unusual visitors including the last flying Vulcan (XH558) on her round Britain tour.
