Fugitives In 1285
At the same court there were three fines levied relating to men of Worlington
who had absconded without permission. The village was fined 2s for the flight of
Bartholomew Aneline, the tithing of John Serkman was fined 5s for the flight of
John son of Adam, and the tithing of Bartholomew Sparrow was fined 40d, for the
flight of Thomas son of Norman. This last was surely the Thomas who had sworn to
abjure the realm; this fine may indicate that he escaped from sanctuary rather
than abide by the proper procedure of abjuration.
A William West of Worlington acted as a juror at this court the following
year.
