Search for Redundant Buildings to help stimulate economic growth and create local jobs

Starting in November, the rural charity Suffolk ACRE on behalf of Forest Heath District Council will be conducting a survey of all redundant buildings in the Forest Heath District.

Benefits to local communities from the survey could include more local jobs and businesses and improvements to the local environment and range of community facilities.

Local landowners and farmers will be sent a questionnaire asking for details about any redundant buildings they may own. By taking advantage of grants available and converting their redundant buildings, owners have the opportunity to start new ventures or example; letting workspace for new small start-up micro enterprises or rural craft workshops or offering bed and breakfast or self-catering accommodation

As well as trying to identify those buildings, which have the potential for conversion to industrial and commercial uses, it is also hoped the survey will identify redundant buildings that could be converted for community uses. To this end all Parish Councils in Forest Heath will also be sent an enquiry form to fill in listing details of redundant buildings in their parish.
Those individuals and Parish Councils that respond to the survey will be sent an information pack detailing sources of advice and grant aid to help convert redundant buildings.
Do you know of any buildings, which are redundant or no longer fully required for their previous use? Then contact Cynthia Schears, Community Development Officer, Suffolk ACRE, 2nd floor, Orchard House, St Helen's Street, Ipswich IP4 2JL. Telephone: 01473 406185.
