The last visit was a great success and now, armed with your village project
pack, this one would make an ideal starting point for villages wanting some
initial help and guidance. Two members of staff will be on hand to answer your team's
questions and point you in the right direction. There is a maximum of
25 places and so please let Joe know who will be coming from your village.
Whatever you do DON'T MISS OUT!
Windmills,
Watermills, All Mills!
Peter
Dolman
of the Suffolk Mills Group
has offered
to be a resource for villages wishing to know more about local mills
history. They have lot
s of
historical material on t
he county's
Mills
. He would also like to hear from any
village which has mills information. So write to Peter at The Windmill,
Upthorpe Road, Stanton, Bury St. Edmunds IP31 2AW. This information will also
be posted in our new Resources section on the news pages at www.22villages.org
Eclipse Excitement
We have started to gather stories about the
recent eclipse and these will be published soon on the website. Our first
contribution was from... Port Huron, near the U.S.A border with Canada, 3,500
miles away! That's where Susan Cook, from Red Lodge, was on Wed 11th August.
Sarah Brownie from Cavenham also has an interesting story to tell, BUT we do
need more so please send your village's recollections to Joe ASAP
Project Pack Official Launch -
23rd August
T
his was attended by over 50 people
representing 21 of the 22 villages. The take-up on the packs has been 100%.
Local media were present resulting in six pieces in the newspapers (including
photographs) and a radio interview.
The
next issue of the Forest Heath News leads with the project and has a double
page spread devoted to it.
The new project
display boards were also shown
for the first time
; produced using
unique print techniques
they are the first
of their type in the country
. The
benefit of this for the villages is a ready made display that can also accept
additional
posters with Velcro
attachments. These 22villages boards are a free resource that can be booked by
your village for its next function, raising awareness and (hopefully)
attracting new team members. Contact Forest Heath Leisure Services on (01638)
719217 for more details.
