WE have now had official confirmation from the Airbase that this initiative has been approved. I have had requests for involvement from Barton Mills, Beck Row, Dalham, Eriswell, Freckenham, Kentford, Moulton, Santon Downham, Tuddenham and West Row. Could all other communities contact me urgently as otherwise you may miss out!

22Villages at Tesco's
Our project currently features on the Millennium noticeboard of every Tescos throughout Suffolk. We are using the opportunity to tell people how they can get involved so hopefully you may all get new team members!

EsmePCsml.jpg (37078 bytes)Recycled PCs are a big hit
The first of the communities to benefit from Forest Heath District Council's recycled PCs initiative is Tuddenham. Pictured is Esme Murfit, the village's local history coordinator. Esme's PC not only gives her access to the internet aspects of the project for the first time but also many of her neighbours. The cost of these PC's is just £50, but the cost of all the tea and biscuits for her neighbours may prove considerable. Esme can be contacted on esme@tuddenham22.freeserve.co.uk. If you would like your community to benefit from one of these PCs, helping to make 22villages online available to even more locals, contact Joe on 01379 646046. Setup and training is provided so even those with tecno fear should apply!

Sat 25 Mar Suffolk Local History Society Fair
We have been asked to provide a stand at this event (Mendlesham Community Centre) and also to promote that it will be open to the general public between 2.00 and 4.30pm

Your Village on small CD
We have now taken delivery of 50 22village writeable small CD Roms. These can contain all the information on the main 22villages site plus one village site (your village site). Unlike the standard size cds, these can hold a snapshot of your site as it develops rather than at the end of the project. They are available for £5 and can be ordered from Joe (01379) 646046

Dates for your Diary
Wed 23 Feb
7.30pm Open Meeting, Elveden Village Hall * Fri 1 Sept
FINAL date for submitting your community's contribution to Book/CD/Web * Fri 15 Dec Books and CD ROMs published and available

There are now 242 days until the end of the project...
The last date for submitting your community's edited, referenced information and photographs is Saturday 30th September 2000. Our aim is to have 1,000 books (£5 each) and 1,000 cds (£3 each) available by Christmas. This is roughly 40 copies available per community, I feel sure that if we could demonstrate that more are required, we could increase the initial print run. With this in mind I would ask each community to start to gather names of people who would like a CD and/or book (we will not need any money at this stage) and let me have a provisional total by the end of March.
